Yes! In Split Screen mode the game fills in the grid with AI opponents, for a total of 8 racers. So if there are 2 humans playing, there will be 6 AI.
When you start a new Split Screen game, you choose Rookie, Pro or Elite difficulty. The difficulty determines the speed of the hydrojets, and also the skill level of the AI.
